Yeah, a little late, but I'm still recovering. My health is nowhere what it used to be after living in a mold-infested apartment, so exhaustion and fatigue really hit me. AB took a lot out of me, but it was worth it!
This was one of my favorite cons thus far. I went up on Thursday night, which made a world of difference in getting my badge and not having to wake up wicked early to catch a train Friday. And then the con is just a walk down the hallway (or street if you are smart and decide to avoid the Pru entrance like the plague).
I loved my cosplays. I wore GLaDOS again, and I brought along my cake, which garnered much attention. It was good to wear GLaDOS when I was in a better frame of mind. The last time I wore her at AB, I was emotionally a mess, and I was hanging with someone who I was trying to stay friends with despite a failed attempt at romance, and let's just say his ensorcelled feelings towards me took a 180 when we decided to end things. C'est la vie. But yeah, I love GLaDOS, even if she is hard to move around in.
My steampunk!Alice, while not drawing in as much attention as GLaDOS, made me feel awesome. I actually felt pretty, and despite the boots wanting to murder my feet, I was incredibly happy. Plus, one of the few people who asked for my picture was the steampunk guy I've seen at the con since I've started attending. I've always admired his outfits, so I was incredibly flattered that he wanted a picture with me!
Sunday was Scarlet Benoit from the Lunar Chronicles, and though no one recognized me, I enjoyed being her. So I was happy.
Two of my friends came to the con Saturday and Sunday. It was their first time, and I was so excited to have them there! Hopefully next year they'll stay all weekend and cosplay!
The Masquerade was AWESOME. I'm so happy my friend made me go last year, as I absolutely love it! The Death Match was hilarious #teamdolphin and all of the panels I attended were great. I hope they do Hatoful Boyfriend next year, too. It's a great panel!
I even got to meet Eric Vale!!!! I've been wanting him to come to Boston for a while now, and I was psyched when they announced him. I went to two of his panels, and let me say, he took his panel I'm Gonna Voice In Your Face quite literally. He got within inches of my face (good thing I like him so much, cuz I got a personal bubble that's way big).
I know there have been a lot of complaints about AB this year, and I do agree that the security was nuts. I feel bad for the AB staff, as a lot of it seemed to have been sprung on them last minute, and a lot of things they were told by the Hynes weren't so. Despite this, the AB staff, volunteers, and security were awesome. They were patient, kind, and helpful, which shows that they really listened to the feedback from last year, and that's why I have faith that they'll do all they can to fix things for next year. The only thing I'm all that worried about is the prop policy. Hynes security was not good about props, confiscating things that were allowed according to the policy, even breaking things. As a cosplayer, I would be devastated if this happened. I spend a lot of time and money on my props and cosplays, so I hope things get sorted out. In the mean time, I'm working hard to make my props look good but be obviously harmless.
I'm looking forward to next year! My friend wants to cosplay, so I'm planning on being Homura Akemi from Madoka Magica with her as Madoka (or if she flakes, just a lone Homura). And since the theme is going to be retro, I'm planning on putting together Aerith from FFVII and Bijou from Hamtaro.
Until next year!

Should've written this earlier, but here it is.
Anime Boston has come and gone. I had a great time, even though I was only able to go for Saturday and Sunday. I was a little anxious about this year, as I had a kinda crappy time last year. It had nothing to do with the con itself, but rather the people I had to deal with there. I started going to AB in 2010 with just my friend Jenn and my brother. Gradually, as we attended AB and other cons, we gained more people in our group. I thought this was great at first. But then the drama started. Now it's back to just me and Jenn (sadly my brother is no longer in my group, either). That's fine, though. However, the people who caused me distress were going to be at the con. I did see them a few times, and while I psyched myself up for weeks prior to the con with regards to this happening, telling myself I could handle it and be awesome--in the end I used ninja skills I didn't even know I had to avoid running in to them. Seriously, there was a moment where I saw certain people appear in the crowd in front of me, and I leapt behind a pillar XD I don't do well with confrontation (INFJ).
Anyhow, aside from these minor inconveniences (I did miss a panel for fear of running into people, but it wasn't a total loss), the con was awesome. Jenn and I managed to miss most of the lines and chaos. I finally attended the Masquerade (was AMAZING), and I went to more panels than usual. The Hatoful Boyfriend panel was my favorite. Very well done.
I liked the theme a lot (Team Kaiju!), and I enjoyed the QR battle thing they had going on. Hope they do it again next year (would totally work for Field Day). The bag check went much better than last year. I bought a bunch of stuff, most of it being gifts for other people. I enjoyed cosplaying as Makise Kurisu. I actually hope to bring her back next year.
I feel bad for the AB staff right now. I understand that there were some real issues with lines and security and stuff, and I don't blame people for being upset. But there is no need for them to be as nasty and abrasive as they're being on the forums. People aren't even trying to start out being polite; they're going into attack mode right away. Again, I understand that people had some major issues at the con; I would be upset if people yelled at me unnecessarily, too. But the AB staff have always been very kind and polite and helpful on the forums. People are expecting way too much from them too quickly. They are volunteers. They have jobs and lives. They had to stay at the convention site longer than we did in order to clean up. Not only that, they need to discuss the problems amongst themselves and the Hynes staff and the Prudential staff and probably many other people. This stuff takes time. The fact that they are responding this quickly at all is great in my opinion. There are steps that must be followed. We don't see what's happening behind the scenes. We need to give them some slack and stop going into attack mode.
Anyhow, just a little rant there.
Can't wait til next year. I have two friends who plan to come for the first time! I'm planning on cosplaying Belarus, Steampunk!Alice, and Makise Kurisu.
Counting the days...

Blizzard!!!

1 min read
So what did I do during this magnificent blizzard? To be fair, I did get some studying done, as well as other important activities. I also got up at 8:00 AM, so that's something! I also finally got around to watching season 5 of Hetalia (so many historical notes on the DVD!), and then I thought, Hey, snow! Let's do a photoshoot! Since I already did one for Belarus, I decided to go with fem!Canada. However, just as I was about to go outside, the plows decided to clear the church parking lot next door. As I don't really like being caught alone in my cosplays (my neighbors already think I'm crazy enough), I didn't want to go out til they were gone. They just left now. And it's dark. Daaaang. So I got a few pictures. Had to use my phone as I can't locate my tripod. Oh, well. It's New England. There will be other storms.

It's almost here!!!
Looking forward to it! I'll be there Saturday and Sunday (staying at the Sheraton with my friend). Last year kinda sucked for me due to personal issues that followed me to the con (I did have fun here and there, though), but I'm hoping that won't happen this year! No. I'm DETERMINED not to let it happen. Those personal issues are still going to follow me to the con, but I can run away from them! Ah ha!
Seriously, though, I'm excited because my friend and her husband may join me for Saturday. She loves anime, but she's never been to a con. Trying to help her figure out a cosplay (she wants something cute) while working on my own.
I've decided to not do Luna. I'm just going to do Makise Kurisu for the entire weekend. That way I don't have to worry about changing my makeup halfway through Saturday. She's almost complete. I have the wig, and I'm almost done sewing the edging onto the sweater. I need to find shorts, boots (if I can't find any I feel fit, I'll just use a pair I already have), and the belts for her sleeves. I'm also going to bring my GLaDOS lab coat and switch into Makise's outfits she wears in the "lab." I just need to find green slippers (who knew green slippers would be so hard to find). Figure I can switch into that towards the end of Saturday.
I'm excited about cosplaying Makise because she's relatively easy and comfortable (I'll be able to move my head and turn around without breaking something on me or someone else). But I'm also reeeeeally anxious. I do not have Makise's body type. I don't hate my body type, but I'm worried about my confidence in this cosplay. Still, I'm looking forward to it.
Here's to April!
